Bittersweet life of three strangers

Why not use the "L"

This is my most favorite artwork collection from Whitney Museum was painted by Reginald Marsh in 1930. I chose this artwork because this picture shows how a man is sleeping in the subway train. This art makes me think that he is very tired and had worked a lot.

I’m Andrew Mackanze. My life is very difficult because I have to work from early morning till late night to earn some money for my big family. I always regret because if I studied very good at my high school and college then I would have ended up by getting a good job and make a lot of money and have house and my own car. But I don’t have any of them. I work as a poor labor. My life is meaningless. I wake up very early and go to the work to finish the hard job for my master. I become already so exhausted in the half day of work. I can’t even control myself to stay awake when I go back home by the subway. I myself take care of all the members in my family because they aren’t able  to work for so many problems.

I’m Aisse Harnaldez. I’m the women who is sitting next to the sleeping man. I’m thinking of how I  have finished my work at my office. The day was great. But I’m worrying about how are my children at home. Today I had a meeting at my office so I decorated my self with a flowery purple ribbon on my head but my glasses looks bad. I think I should have changed it before I come to work but anyway, the day passed with a great moment. I am happy woman with my life but there are also sadness inside me. I’m very sensitive. I am now thinking of the man sleeping behind me. He is fallen on sit as if he died of working too much.

Another night after a busy day. I’m Dori Jover, standing near the door of the train and reading today’s newspaper. I didn’t have any time to read about what’s happening around New York today. Things are happening in our city aren’t so good. The economy is going down. Products are very expensive. So, we must work hard in our jobs in order to earn money to survive. I always like to read in the brake of my works. I feel boring in subway while I’m going somewhere. So, I spend my time reading.

Mystery on the”L”.

This picture captured my attention because I think its very interesting that the man sitting on the subway is the only African American. Based on that he is the only colored person on this train I assumed that he was on his way home back from a long day of work because he looks very tired. His boss probably made him do a lot of things and he looks exhausted. Everyone else on the train looks very much awake, and everyone is in their own world. The man is probably dreaming about a better life that he wants, maybe his family is in a different country and hes in New York working and saving money on bringing them to love with him. He might be dreaming about earning more money and not having to work anymore. Apart from the fact that the man is asleep and looks tired he is positioned as if he were on that train for a long time. He looks like if he was about to lay down on the subway chairs. The white women around him have a puzzled look on their faces. The women look as if they were thinking about something that has been bothering them for a while and they are trying to look for a solution.

Living An Amazing Life

South Carolina Morning

My most favorite artwork collection from Whitney Museum was “South Carolina Morning”, which was painted by Edward Hopper. I chose this artwork because somehow I can imagine myself as the lady.

The countenance of my face expresses freedom and peace. I am standing on the corner of the door and observing the beauty of the nature and beautiful sunny weather. In the artwork, I seem to have independence and I am living in somewhere where I dreamed of living. I myself always wanted and dreamed to live in somewhere like the place that is shown on the artwork “South Carolina Morning,” where the weather is so amazing and the place is filled with grass and the beauty of nature. I want to see the birds flying in the sky, which also represents the sign of being free. I am living in a place where there is a lot of protection and I can live my life with no worries. I was a little bored at home alone and that is why I came up to the door, opened it and started observing the beauty of nature. I love the place where I am living in right now because I have always wanted to live in a place where there is grass and also beautiful like good and clean villages. At this moment, I am feeling so happy because nobody is around me and no one is bothering me at what I am doing right now. I start to feel very frustrated whenever somebody disturbs me from observing nature. Red is one of my favorite color and I am wearing a red dress, red hat and red earrings. I love summer time because I can go outside whenever I want and after a while I will start walking on the grass field. But for now, I am just trying to get some fresh air and I just want to view the beauty of the nature.

Being overweight in America.

I chose this photo because i feel that the photographer Katy Grannan is trying to send out a message that really relates in society today.

This photo in my opinion represents how someone can be overweight and still feel beautiful in their own skin, most overweight people today feel very insecure because they do not feel comfortable in their own skin. In this photo she chose an over weight model, and in the models facial expression shes not afraid or worried about showing off her body how it is.

  I think the photographer chose this setting to represent how she stands out in such an ugly setting. I really like this photo over all because of the theme,I  think this photo should boost up anyone’s confidence if they don’t feel as beautiful as they should. You don’t need to be skinny, white, black, or anything different to be beautiful, you need to be yourself and be happy with yourself.

Katy Grannan was born in the year 1969 in Arlington, Massachusetts. She is known to be a American portrait photographer, a very interesting fact about Katy Grannan is that she lets her models chose the setting they would like their photo to be taken in, she also lets the models chose the position they would like to be captured in.

A Symbolic Battle

Dempsey and Firpo 1924

The above painting of a boxing match has been painted by an American painter, George Bellows. George Bellows is known for his urban art of New York City, and is proclaimed to be “the most acclaimed American artist of his generation”. This painting seems to be based on a striking victory of a boxing match. It was based on a boxing match that took place on September 14th, 1923; Jack Dempsey vs. Luis Ángel Firpo, a fight in which Firpo won as the “people’s champion” (Firpo, being the man in the red trunks in the painting). Besides the fact that one boxer knocked the other one out of the actual ring, people seem to be very surprised. The boxer in the red trunks could have been the underdog in this match, but still managed to knock out his opponent (literally). Just looking at this painting gives you a surge of power, energy, and motivation; like you can take on the world. Amazingly enough, the referee is still counting down, even though the boxer in the white trunks literally got a “ring out”. Either the ropes used for boxing rings at that time weren’t very strong, or men were just a lot stronger than they are now. This must have been a fight that changed the entire course of boxing in a positively drastic way.

Besides being just a painting about boxing, it seems to have more meaning then just that. I can’t point it out exactly, but I can feel that there is. The lights in the back round, the color of their trunks, the reactions of the crowd… it just feels like there’s more to the painting then we can see; it’s something we have to look for.
